Thalia Kalaboukas

Thalia is an Associate at Maurice Blackburn Commercial, whose expertise is in superannuation and financial services law.

She works with a diverse client base including trustees, responsible entities, life insurers, unions, accountants, financial planners and high net-worth individuals.

Thalia has a comprehensive understanding of the financial services industry. Her work has included:

establishing superannuation funds, worker entitlement funds (such as redundancy funds) and a new division within a master trust operated by a second tier bank;

enhancing the trust deeds of existing funds and trusts;

advising on the prudential, commercial and taxation issues affecting funds and trusts;

drafting and reviewing disclosure material and member communications;

undertaking legal due diligence and legal risk analysis;

liaising with regulators on a wide range of matters, including handling regulator investigations and enforceable undertakings;

advising on superannuation related employment law issues including choice of fund and the superannuation guarantee legislation; and

preparing various self-managed superannuation fund documentation, including pension documentation and death benefit nominations.

She also provides advice on various estate planning issues and prepares complex Wills.

Thalia graduated from Monash University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce. She is currently undertaking a Master of Laws degree at Melbourne University. Thalia is a Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia (TIA), a committee member of the TIA's Superannuation Education Club and Women in Tax Club and a member of the Law Institute of Victoria.
